JOY FM’s Game On! caught up with Sydney Spectres club member AJ Lamarque to chat about all things basketball and community. Representing Sydney’s LGBTIQ+ and Allies basketball scene, AJ spoke about the club’s weekly trainings, our growing Spectres League comp, the pathway to the Gay Games 2026 in Valencia and what it means to be a Spectre.
AJ highlighted how our weekly trainings and Spectres League have become core spaces for people to learn, compete and find community.
He also touched on the excitement building around the Gay Games, with players preparing to represent Spectres Australia on the world stage.
At its heart, the interview was about belonging. AJ shared how special it is to be part of a club where people can show up fully as themselves, build friendships and play basketball in an environment shaped by inclusion and pride.
