Perth Spectres publicly responded to homophobic comments made by Perth Wildcats guard Corey Webster, emphasising the impact harmful remarks from high-profile athletes can have on LGBTQI+ players and fans. While acknowledging the Wildcats’ swift apology and investigation, the club reaffirmed its commitment to creating safe, inclusive basketball environments across Western Australia.


  • Perth Spectres stressed that comments from sporting figures carry weight, particularly for those navigating their sexuality or gender identity in sport.

  • The club welcomed the Wildcats’ and NBL’s quick action, reinforcing their shared commitment to visibility, diversity and inclusive participation.
